As well as having a School Council, each child in Key Stage 1 and 2 has the opportunity to be a member of a Development Team. Our Development Teams have been created by children to improve different aspects of our school and they provide an important voice for all the children. Development teams usually meet three or four times a year for about an afternoon or longer. The groups are cross age and run by children. Adults are on hand to assist if necessary but children run the meetings and set goals themselves which inform the School Improvement Plan. Children choose a team in which to work based on their interests or enthusiasm.
We also use development teams to work on whole school projects such as 'International day'.
In the past the teams have included… a Kitchen team, Music, Playground, ICT, Toilets, Tidy, Science, Literacy and Library, Maths, Healthy living, Trips and Visits, Welcome…
Achievements have included:
Auditing and purchasing of musical instruments,
Organizing Playground Markings and the designing of an Ark or play boat
Organizing an African Breakfast to raise funds for Comic Relief
Making key decisions about flooring for our new kitchen
Planning a trip to @ Bristol for Key Stage 1&2
Organising a chess tournament
Running writing competitions
Ordering practical maths packs for classes and then auditing their use!
