A wonderful Musical Experience

It is not everyday in the life of a seven year old that you experience a world class musical performance - live! ...

The Aquinus Piano Trio

I wanted to share with you some of the pictures I took yesterday during the visit to Churchill Primary School to see the Aquinus Piano Trio. This was sponsored by the local arts charity, Churchill Music! with whom we are delighted partners in bringing musical education to the community. You only have to look at the faces of the children to see the engagement in this experience. Most of the children had never heard a piano trio before, particularly one of such world-class stature. It was a real privilege for us all.

Comments from the Y2 children included, 'It's amazing,' 'Wow!' ' That was fun' and 'I didn't know you could make sounds like that on a 'cello!'

Faces transfixed

The performers explained a little about their instruments and then played, both individually and together, a variety of pieces that showed both traditional and contemporary composing techniques. Some children were lucky enough to even have a play on the cello. Do you recognise someone from our school?

Finally, when the Y2 children had left to return to school, our Y6 orchestra leader was given the privilege of playing to the professional performers.

Nellie performed beautifully, from memory, and was even given some helpful hints to develop her playing. What an unforgettable experience it was.
